Year 5

It is vital that Year 5 children are given some face-to-face time with their current teachers and their new Year 6 teachers before the end of the year. They have missed several months of direct schooling just as they are about to start their final year at Belmore. We need to work with them on identifying gaps in their learning so we can start to put together plans to hit the ground running from September. Like you, we want them to achieve their very best next year and the work needs to start now.

For these reasons we are prioritising getting Y5 in to school. I know some of you may still have concerns about your children returning to school at this time but we have put a lot of protective measures in place for the many children who are already back in school. These are working well and parents have confidence that we have their child’s interests at heart.

We will be bringing Year 5 children back in two groups, starting with Group 1 next week. We will be texting parents to let them know which group their child is in and when they are expected to come in to school:

  • Group 1 children will be in school Monday 29 June and Tuesday 30 June.
  • Group 2 children will be in school Monday 6 July and Tuesday 7 July as well as Monday 13 July and Tuesday 14 July.

Children will start at 9.30am and should be collected at 3.00pm. They should enter through the large gate into the playground. There will be clear markings to keep children and adults 2 metres apart while queueing to go to class and again at the end of the day, similar to what you may be used to outside shops and supermarkets.

Please note the following:

  • Children need to ideally come in clean clothes each day so we do NOT expect them to wear school uniform at this time
  • Children should NOT bring their own bags and equipment to school. They can bring their own water bottle.
  • Children need to bring a packed lunch to school. Parents who are eligible for free school meals will continue to get their vouchers so you will need to send them in with a packed lunch as well. Please put the packed lunch in a carrier bag – no lunch boxes please.

Home Learning

None of us want children to miss out on their education while the school is closed. To help make sure this does not happen we have put together some work that parents can do with their children or that children can work on independently.

It is extremely vital that you support your child to learn at home while the school is closed.

Please note:

  • Teachers will continue to work during this time and create learning and resources for children to do at home
  • It is crucial your child carries out as much of the work provided

Click below for tasks for your children to do and for you to do with them. There are a number of links to online resources for children to work on independently.

These will be updated regularly by your child’s class teacher.

If you have any questions or issues then you can contact your child’s teacher or Year Leader using the email below:
