World Book Day

Thursday 7 March

Dear Families,

World Book Day takes place on Thursday 7th March this year and we hope you will join us as we come together to celebrate our World Book Day in school.

We will have lots of fun activities taking place throughout the day including:

  • Reading to your child: Come into class and read a story with your child
    8:35am – 9:00am for Years 3 to 6 and
    3:00pm – 3:20pm for Reception to Year 2
  • Stop-Everything-and-Read Sessions
We will have several times in the day when staff and children will stop what they are doing and share a book with someone.
  • Whole school book
Everyone in the will be reading the book ‘Kindness is my Superpower’ by Alicia Ortego in assembly and we will be thinking how we can be kind to one another.
  • Get your free World Book Day Book Token to get a FREE book!
Getting a free £1 book for your child is easy - simply take your £1 book token to your nearest bookseller and swap it for a World Book Day £1 book OR get £1 off any book or audiobook costing £2.99 or more. You can find your nearest bookseller at worldbookday.com/participating-retailers.  You can help your child choose their £1 book by showing them the exciting ‘Look Insides’ at worldbookday.com/books-and-tokens/books
  •  Wear your own clothes
We won’t be dressing up this year instead we ask that children wear their own clothes and bring their favourite book to share with their class.  We hope that wearing their own clothes will remind the children that reading is for anytime not just at school.  We know that this year many families will find themselves in a difficult financial situation - we don’t want our celebrations to be an additional burden that dressing up may cause.  We ask that you consider the impact on the children who aren’t able to take part in this way.

We are looking forward to celebrating World Book Day, which could not happen without the support of parents and carers - thank you.

Best Wishes,

The Literacy Team
